more MISC. info about Hacken

(5/7/2004) Hacken Lee Hark Kun recently has become a Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal ambassador. He even became a sponsor for the animals. "For a few dollars you can help animals in need. I didn't care about what kind of animal I am sponsoring, just that I can help them improving their lives and receiving proper service. Many people don't understand the purpose of SPCA. They only know that abandoned animals are sent to SPCA. Actually they are a very complete organization with veterinary, beauty and other services. Pet owners can consult the workers on any question about their animals."

**news**: hacken sleepy when filming 2 days straight!

(4/30/2004) Hacken Lee Hark Kun two nights ago has worked two straight nights on the new film LOK JONG SI (SIX STRONG MEN). Hacken honestly said that he had a hard time getting through the night and relied on chewing gum and spicy food to stay awake. "I have been in the business for 18 years. This year I really want to make movies and I don't want to stay in a certain circle for too long. Singing can't make a living, I only look good."

Singing can't make a living, I only look good.

Hehe...some faulty translation there. What Hacken said is that it's not possible to make a living from just singing. So reporters commented that his ZLYL album was the bestselling album in 2003 and the concerts were a success so there should be no reason why he said that. (Cos if that's the case, others will be very much worse off. )Hacken's reply is that this appears to be so only ie being glorious on the surface, but in actual fact, his situation is not as good as what everyone thinks.

Hacken's main focus this year will be on the movies with ard 3-4 on the cards. He wants people to see him as a more more well-rounded artiste and not merely as a singer. Hence, he will strive towards this aim. Actually Hacken does wish to act in tv serials but it's too time-consuming, considering that acting in one drama will take up to 3 or 4 mths. So in the meantime, we'll just have to make do with the movies.:)

P.s: By the way, do you guys notice his addiction to chewing gum?

One thing the article didn't mention is that Hacken is an early bird. He sleeps latest at 12 and wakes up early too. Don't ya think that's very rare for a star? He's a rare gem cos for one thing, he hardly goes pubbing and prefers home, which is very different for other stars, especially one of the same status as him.

I have no idea...:-P

In Response To: really? what about when he was younger? (kate)

> that's nice! and probably why he had such a hard time
> working on the movie 2 days straight--not used 2
> staying up late...but what about when he was younger?
> just wondering. ha ha...

Haha...just saw an interview on Hacken. He joked that maybe its cos he's aging and hence have to sleep early. But he said that after that first two days, he has gotten use to it. He noted that it was much better filming movies as compared to dramas (maybe cos of the working conditions) and there are a few more movies coming up. He will view himself as a newcomer and as an actor, he wants to try a variety of roles, whether its that of a baddie or psychotic killer. He even joked that he may have a breakthrough acting as a psychotic killer! LOL.

Some stuff I heard from a radio interview
Posted By: rou (palo8.pacific.net.sg)
Date: Tuesday, 11 May 2004, at 6:46 a.m.

Hacken was on RTHK Ch 2 yesterday (10 May) and here's some stuff i heard:

1) Hacken will not be marrying this year since his schedule is fully packed all the way till 30 Dec with ZLYL concerts.

2) Hacken's new album is abt his love life, past and present relationships. Initially, he wanted to write all the songs, since its about him, but he couldn't do so cos of his packed schedule. So what he did is to ask Wyman to write for him all the songs. The content of every song is discussed with Wyman before Wyman wrote the lyrics.

Some songs Hacken mentioned:

(I think u guys know bout the meaning behind Six Feet Wind Cloud already right?)

Slamming Door:
About how problems between couples always get worse because of this simple act of slamming doors which magnifies the problem.

You Do Not Know How to Sing:
Dedicated to his present gf aka Emily, its about how although she does not know how to sing, she always gives him inspiration for his songs.

Goodbye Kiss Position:
The song is composed by Gigi and Hacken said it was his best song in five years. He had recorded the song shortly after Leslie's death anniversary. On April 1st, everywhere was broadcasting Leslie's clips and songs and Hacken seen and heard alot about it. Then it also happened that the producer for this song had just produced a song for Theresa Carpio and shared his experience cooperating with Theresa with Hacken. After these 2 events, Hacken had a sudden revelation. It was like suddenly "ting" in his head. He realised how he can better sing his songs. He said that pple always criticise him for singing on too technical levels, lacking emotions. He feels that he does put in emotions, but others cannot feel it. But now, he knows how to make others feel it more. Hacken gave the analogy of clothes fitting a man. By right, the clothes shd fit the person. But in some cases, the man ends up fitting the clothes, which is not supposed to be the case. He said he used to be like the latter. He was too restricted by the songs, but now he knows how to sing his songs better. So to Hacken this is a breakthrough. (And am glad for him!)

Another song he mentioned but didn't say the name of song, is abt how he used to have a crush on his teacher. Later he realised that his teacher's daughter also has a crush on him! LOL!:-P

3) Another interesting fact is that Hacken's new album is entitled Smart ID. Does the name ring a bell? It's the name of the ID Hacken helped the HK government promote. Cos the songs are basically abt him, so the name is an apt one, especially since most pple already identify Smart ID with him.

The album shd be out in mid-June.

4) Hacken is also enjoying the process of filming 6 Strong Men. The movie is basically abt what the 6 men undergo. His main scenes will be with Candy, Ekin Cheng, Andy Hui, Chapman To and that new guy. He hardly has any scenes with George Lam.

Well...i think this basically summarises and translates the entire interview. Hope u guys enjoyed it!

(7/9/2004) Hacken Lee Hark Kun earlier visited a drug rehabilation center. Hacken honestly said that someone who he has worked with before was there and he hoped that he can recover. Aside from jamming with the recovering addicts, he also shared his experience in the low points of his life. "Everyone has low points, the most important is how you respond." Hacken said that he was the worst selling singer in Hong Kong concert history with only 30% admission rate. In 98 he did not have any chance for a disk release and no record label would take him in. "At the time I almost thought about switching jobs to call soccer matches. Hong Kong is a place of survival of the fittest. I tried to work on other jobs and wait for the chance. Life can't always be smooth or rough."

When asked about his girlfriend Emily Lo Suk Yi's support at his low point, he said, "She didn't give me any pressure and told me to bravely face it. The hardest was the year end award ceremonies. My family would change the channel out of fear that I would feel bad, but she told me to watch more of them and see why others would succeed."

Hacken yesterday also attended a Wanchai road safety event. "Lately more and more government organizations have asked me to promote, like the regional council, smart identification cards and this road safety event. Although they are all on a volunteer basis, I feel very happy."

After the Real Madrid vs Hong Kong match broke records for TVB, the company has decided to continue it's winning streak by treating viewers to the the Eurasian Snooker Challenge between 21st and 26th August and the European Cup match between AC Milan and and Porto on 28th August. TVB also wants to expand its sporting offers to include Basketball and other Football matches.

To celebrate the top rating sucess, TVB held a small celebratory party yesterday with appearances from Hacken Lee, Nat Chan and Amanda Boll, this will be followed by a full scale celebration next week. Hacken says excitedly: "Beckham's attraction is just irresistable, because to get this result means that not only the usual football viewers were watching, even those who don't usually watch football tuned in. This really is a result of dreams and I am feeling a little overwhelmed because this may not happen again in my hosting lifetime. When I found out I was very happy because I can show my mum my achievements, because when I used to buy the soccer magazines, my mum used to say they were useless."

Hacken reveals that he will be leaving today to start on his American Tour with Alan Tam and along the way they will be filming for his third "Lek Yan San Sai Gei" VCD where he will be playing practical jokes on Alan and some passers-by on the streets. Alan is a little unnerved by being victimised like this for ten days. However, Hacken insists that it will not go too far, not like the exaggerated reports of sending a gorilla into Central, it will just be fun and not over the top. This time Hacken has invested a seven-figure sum into making this VCD, being the boss for the first time because he feels that the market is currently worth a try. He emphasises that there is blood and sweat in this money so he hopes that he will be able to sell the production to TVB. Will this investment affect his marriage plans? Hacken laughs: "Not at all, I haven't touched my wedding fund. I have no means of investing in movies, but I can try with VCD's and I don't intend to make a lot out of it. Making a third series is a wish between myself and Joey Leung." Hacken that TV production is rather restrictive, so making VCD's allow more freedom to produce a half hour VCD that will have the audience in fits of laughter. He hopes it will be ready for release in December. [I DON'T THINK ANY VCD WAS RELEASED AFTER THEY CAME BACK TO HK. I WONDER WHY???]

Nat Chan happily says that ratings cannot be forced because the entertainment industry isn't like any other, so he encourages Hacken to make the most of his opportunity and continue with his highly successful concert partnership with Alan Tam.

When asked what important news he has? He says he has everything, apart from children. He also feels that in addition to talent, luck is very important as the success this time has allowed him to experience how great ratings can be found from just doing your job to your best ability and so he hopes that on the night of the Miss Hong Kong pageant on 23rd August, he will be able to reach new highs with partner Eric Tsang. Nat says that Alan Tam will not be in Hong Kong on the 23rd, so will not be able to steal his thunder; however he was a little worried when he heard he has to wear swimming trunks on the night, laughing: "People aren't there to see my appearance and figure!"

[The Sun]

Appearing as a guest performer at a singing contest earlier, Hacken Lee was showing off an LV ring presented to him by girlfriend Emily Lo, is there a hidden meaning in it? He denies this as usual: "She buys me a lot of accessories through the year, there is no special meaning in it!"

Hacken, Emme Wong and Anne Heung too part in the 2003 New Talent Singing Contest as guests and backstage, Hacken seemed very excited as he showed off his new design LV ring to the press, a present from his girlfriend. He said, with a feeling of sweetness: "I was told I had to wear it by my image consultant at home (Emily)! What? It is eight thousand dollars? Surely not! Let me go and ask her!" Although it is his money she is spending, Hacken doesn't mind and laughs that he is very pleased with her advice on his image. When asked if there was another meaning to his girlfriend's present, he immediately responded with caution saying: "No, she buys me a lot of accessories and there is no meaning."

Hacken has had a smooth wind recently, but he often has differences in opinion with his record company Universal and there are rumours he is demanding $20 million dollars to renew his contract for two years. He laughs: "If that is the case, I would give them 20% off and still sign for 10 years!" He admits that the record sales of recent years have not been as high as in the past and the tens of millions are all just rumours and silly figures, he is just after sincerity: "I have achieved many awards in Beijing and Shanghai and even Andy (Lau) has offered to help me make a Mandarin album if necessary, but Universal have not even got a plan and I really don't understand that." Universal was earlier involved in a series of ICAC investigations and Hacken says that before this is all cleared up, he will not discuss contracts with other companies so as to be fair with them.

Also, Emme Wong appeared on the night in a close fitting trousers with a split nearly up to her sensitive regions, she says she has done all the protective measures: "I am totally taped up and there is a back up panties inside!"

The New Talent contest Gold Award went to Tong Nga Ming from Los Angeles and the silver and bronze went to Tong Chun Dik and Liu Wai Lik respectively.

this is why he was crying...

In Response To: does anyone know how Hacken's first concert went? (Kate)

i went to the Hacken Zone forum again, and this is why Hacken was
crying, according to Alan Alan:

Alan Alan

61.18.120.33

2002/02/14 21:01:48

Hacken cried when he sang Alan Tam's gold song 'µL¨¥•P¿E'. Before that,
Hacken asked the audiences whether they had joined his concert in 1995. About
a little bit more than half of the audiences raised their hands. Then Hacken said
that he has been very afraid of holding any concert since 1995 because he thought
that concert was quite a failure. He remembered that many seats were unoccupied and
he was so disappointing that time.

Then he said that he must say thanks to 'one person' because that
'person' encouraged him to work harder in an occasion. That 'person' told him
if he could do his work better, his fans would surely come back to him one day. I
believe that that 'person' is Alan Tam.

Then Hacken said that in these seven years (1995 - 2002), he tried to
do a lot in TVB to arouse the attention of his fans. And eventually, in 2002, he was
so excited to see that all the concert tickets were sold out in such a short time.

After Hacken said these words, I was a liitle bit surprised. In 1995,
I attended two of Hacken's concert. With my memory, the collisium was full in that two
concerts. So I wondered why Hacken said that the number of audiences was not
satisfactory at that time.

At last, I have to say that Hacken's concert was great and I'll attend
another one on Sunday.

HK ENT REVIEW NEWS ABOUT CONCERT_______FEB. 14 2002__

Last night, Hacken Lee Hak-Ken kicked off his six-concert Hung Hom
Coliseum concert series (left). As it was the Lunar New Year holiday,
the show started off with firecracker-type pyrotechnics -- a first
for the Hung Hom Coliseum. Not only were fans treated to a well-
executed show, they were each given an assortment of gifts that
included: a coupon, a flash card, a perfume sample and a waving
stick similar to the type NBA teams give to their fans for waving
when an opposing team shoots free throws. Before the concert, Lee
revealed that he worked hard to give his fans a good show. He even
went as far as to rehearse on Lunar New Year's Day. Further, he
opened his rehearsals to his friends then passed out a questionnaire
to see where improvements could be made. It was, apparently, a tip
that was given to him by consummate showman Eric Tsang Chi-Wai. Lee:
"Chi-Wai told me that I needed to treat every rehearsal like I was
giving a real show -- that way I can correct any mistakes before
going live." Related images (courtesy Oriental Daily News):

Not only Hacken treats like that ,Nicola Cheung is not treat very

Alan Publicizes Hacken As Successor

Hacken Lee was the favorite for the Male Singer award. Not only
did his good friend Alan Tam Wing Lun personally presented him with the
award, but also expressed that he has already found a successor in Hacken.
He also transferred his father's advice to him in 85's award show "Win
But Don't Be Proud" to Hacken and hoped that Hacken would continue to
work hard. Hacken humbly said that he is not qualified to be Alan's
successor, but the victory did not disappoint Alan's expectation in him.
Hacken also honestly thanked TVB because over the years, during good and
bad times, TVB has given him so many opportunities. At his worst at
least he was able to host TVB Jade Solid Gold. He also thanked his
family, who he said might be so happy for him at home that they are
crying.
Yeung Chin Wa was very tense before the Female Singer award was
announced. When she gave her speech on stage, she held back her tears
to avoid being a cry baby again. She also said that she slowly saved up
for this award. Chan Yik Shun was also very happy about his Gold Song
award as he held up the award and said, "Mine is gold." Seemingly as a
response to his defeat at the hands of Hacken.

my two cents worth

In Response To: really... (stephanie)

i agree with steph. not seeing any negative msges there does not mean that hacken has not seen it. the webmaster may have simply deleted it from the page for fear of other non-fans making use of this issue to create trouble. however, this does not mean that such msges are not shown to hacken. before implementing such widespread changes, i am sure the fanclub leaders and webmasters must have foreseen such feedback. did u notice that the notice given was in chinese and not english, when normally the notices for overseas fans are in english? perhaps they have other plans. its too early for us to jump to our conclusions.

i have heard of hacken giving preferential treatment to fanclub members overseas such as having private gatherings with them. i think its only fair to overseas fans who pay the same amt and yet lack opportunities to say hacken, unlike those in hk. u can't expect yaself to be treated like fans who paid when u haven't. there is no free lunch in this world after all.

another thing about hacken being black faced and all. lets get this straight...all stars have moods, just like ordinary people, just like us. we cannot expect them to be friendly to us or put on a smile 24 hrs a day. we can only expect them to try their best to treat us amicably, which i think hacken has already done. we have to also take into consideration that hacken's overseas trips are usually hectic whirlwind ones which he hardly has time to rest. just visualise this...he leaves hk the day before the journey. reaches the location after a long flight, has to go for press conferences, interviews, in some cases, private fan gatherings, rehearsals and the actual concert the next day. the concert ends late in the night or even wee hrs and the third day he has to fly back to hk. put yaself in his shoes. he may be paid to please but he is human after all.

besides, all fans of hacken should know that hacken is a very quiet and private person off-stage. he has mentioned that many times in interviews. he also confided before that sometimes he does not really know how to handle fans cos he finds it baffling that people like him, much as he appreciates their support, cos in his eyes, he is just an ordinary person. i think once we understand this, its not hard to figure out why he may be a lil distant at times.

yet, i have also heard things bout how once he warms up to ya presence, he will really make ya day. like some china fans in shanghai who waited for him at the airport and he offered to go out of the airport for a good location to take a group shot and when he left, he reminded them to be careful when crossing the road. the same thing during the singapore concert. when he noticed where his fans were mainly sitting, he mostly sang in that direction and made sure he shoke their hands.

i know i have a tendency to be extremely bias when i say this but i want to note that i see everything as a bystander. i am neither on the benefitting nor the losing proposition. as an overseas fan, i just renewed my membership inspite of the cost, as a mark of support for him. its up to u guys how u want to react or respond to the recent events but i hope that u all will be fair to him and the fanclub pple before jumping to any conclusions. organising a fanclub and reconstructing a website is no mean feat and its all done on a voluntary nature...give some credit to them where credit is due.
